From the Principal

I  hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing and healthy holiday.

We are now a week into the spring term 2018, and we have already had our spring term parent meeting this Wednesday. All mentors went through the spring term planning and discussed some points about Social Media. Year Teams 6 and 9 also talked through the upcoming National Tests.

As you know, at IES Falun, we are focusing much on the promotive and preventive work for students well-being. During the fall term, we have been working recurrently with our Equal Treatment Plan every week during Class Meetings and during Life skills-lessons. This term, this value-based work will now also include social media. W. 7, the criminologist Maria Dufva will come to our school, to work with all students about life on the internet during two days; Tuesday 13/2 and Wednesday 14/2. I strongly recommend all guardians to save Tuesday evening to attend the parent cafe´, where Ms Dufva will be holding a lecture and work shop on this highly desirous topic. In the meantime I want to advise you to visit https://friends.se/snabbkurs-vuxna/. It is an interactive education for guardians, where adults can learn more about how one can support children and young adults if they are subjects to abusive treatment. The education is free and takes about half an hour to complete.

We also have the Development talks coming up shortly. The preparations for these important and fruitful talks have already started in most classes this week during Mentor Meetings. The students have reflected on their goals from the fall term, and started to set new or renewed the previous ones, both a social and an academic goals, as well as a career goal. The talks are scheduled to take place during w. 5, and all mentors have opened times on SchoolSoft for all guardians to go in and book a time that suits each family.

Finally, the students have already signed up for Winter Sports Day, and we are in full swing to prepare this appreciated event. Parents are much welcome to attend. Please let us know so we can plan accordingly.
